The method involves calculating the supply voltage for the subscriber line interface circuit depending on the measured supply current on the telephone connection lines. The calculated supply voltage is supplied to the telephone connection lines so that a preset supply current for analog terminals may flow through the telephone connection lines. A telephone line measurement supply voltage is applied to the telephone connection lines via the subscriber line interface circuit. The supply current which flows with the applied telephone line supply voltage is measured over the telephone connection lines. An Independent claim is also included for a control circuit for regulating the supply voltage of a subscriber line interface circuit.
