The machine has a disc rotor (2) provided with a number of permanent magnets and a stator (1) provided with a number of stator coils and having a stator ring (1a) with a number of inwardly projecting radial spokes (1b), each fitted with a separate stator coil winding (1c). The spokes are formed integral with the stator ring and act as the cores for the stator coils. The stator coil windings can be coupled to annular current rails (3a,3b,3c) secured to the stator ring.
