Adjusting element for locking/unlocking a locking device of a motor vehicle comprises a tappet (2) displaced by an adjusting device (1), and an adjusting rod (4) connected to the tappet via a coupling element (9). The adjusting drive moves the tappet from a first position into a second position. The coupling element and the adjusting rod are moved against one another in the direction of the tappet axis. The coupling element is a sleeve having an opening forming a guide recess for the adjusting rod. The coupling element has a longitudinal recess (10) in the direction of the tappet axis in which the dog (5) of the adjusting rod engages so that it can move. At least one of the closed ends (10A, 10B) of the longitudinal recess forms a stop for the dog. The length of the longitudinal recess is at least as long as the path of the tappet between the first and second position. Preferred Features: The adjusting rod is bent at a right angle at one end to form the dog.
