Security device is small integral unit in mobile telephone, with security monitoring proximity program and interface connection (5) for detachable chip card (6). Mobile telephone has transmitter for reception by direction finding to detect position of detachable chip card. During phone use, security device is activated by removal of card. If phone is snatched by thief during use, alarm is activated when specific distance between owner, still in possession of detached chip card, and phone is reached and use of phone is blocked. Security device is a small integral unit in a mobile telephone or fitted into a motor vehicle. In motor vehicle the device contains a security monitoring proximity program, interface connection (5) for detachable chip card (6), interfaces to connect to vehicle on-board computer and indicator/display. Device is programmed so vehicle can be started only by insertion of chip card and input of PIN code. Before leaving vehicle, driver removes chip card from device and then removes ignition key. Ignition key is not released until chip card has been removed. By removing chip card from the device, the security monitoring proximity program is activated. Connection between vehicle and chip card, carried by driver, is broken when a predefined safety distance has been passed. Immediately the device switches off the power supply of the vehicle and sets the pin code input. Due to missing radio connection to the device, an alarm is activated from the chip card or by switch on of LED to inform vehicle owner of theft of vehicle, alarm in vehicle is also activated.
