The method for stabilising a stack of paper in a printing machine before it is transported comprises generating an electrostatic field along its edges (6, 7). This carried out using devices (3', 3) placed on the faces (4, 5, 8) of the stack which meet at the edge concerned. An Independent claim is included for a device for carrying out the method.
