A transverse stiffener (3) of homogenous material is fixed to the surface of the elastic tape (1) in strip form without detracting from the elasticity of the tape. The transverse strip (3) is stiffened by adhesive which is applied in liquid form to stick to the tape surface or by means of tongue-like extensions (4) which penetratingly join to the porous surface of the tape only to harden there to firm condition. The adhesive is of two components or again an adhesive hardening in ultraviolet radiation. Otherwise the adhesive used can harden under change of temperature and in all cases is harmless to humans.
