The regulator (1) has a pressure limitation element (2), charged by a mechanical spring (4) and a hydraulic force dependent upon oil circuit pressure. The spring has an associated automatic adjusting element (3) for oil temperature-dependent adjustment of the spring force. Adjustment is by alteration of spring pretension and/or spring characteristic. The adjusting element is a separate part, and is switched in series with the spring. It is formed by a wax cartridge or a bimetal element. It may have a cylinder with piston, with hydraulic and/or pneumatic oil temperature-dependent adjustment. The element esp. acts on a pump in the circuit.
