Containers (2) are passed continuously by feeder (12) to the filling sector (6) where cigarettes are fed into the containers at 30 deg using a container base (66) gradually lowered in their container as it fills between the lower limit (28) of the flow and the container (2). During this the container base (66) and mass flow upper limit (30) are held at constant spacing. Filling equipment (12) includes a device to lower the base (74) in the filling area (8) and associated guides (76) for the base movement, the guides parallel to the mass flow limit (30). The guides come in L or U shape and take the base rollers. The base steadily fills the container from minimum to maximum level, either steadily or in steps and the base consists of two elements free in pairs in common axes having slotted axis for the rollers (88).
