Method in which glued or soldered areas on a test-piece are subjected to focussed shock waves that are delivered to the test areas via sound conducting media. The shock waves are generated in thermo-hydraulic manner and have amplitudes of at least 10 MPa and diameters of less than 4 mm, ideally 2 mm. The shock waves are transmitted through oil, water or alcohol. The invention also relates to a device for generation and focussing of shock waves for use in testing the strength of heterogeneous joint seams.
