The method involves at least one route planner (1) or navigation device (1a) computing a route from a starting point to a destination, and an associated radio device (2) automatically sending the route to a device for traffic density estimation (3), which stores the received route, determines traffic densities from stored routes and prepares the traffic densities for output. Independent claims are also included for the following: a device for traffic density estimation for implementing the method, a system for traffic density estimation for implementing the method and a navigation device.
