The sub-title device provides sub-title text data corresponding to the audio signals within a recorded television transmission spoken in a foreign language, with timing marks for synchronisation of the sub-title text data with the audio signals incorporated upon recording the television program. The individual words and the grammatical construction used for the sub-title text data are stored as electronic data in a personal foreign language vocabulary databank.
