Process for transporting and/or storing hydrogen in chemically fixed form for use as fuel and for releasing at the consumer site comprises using an alcohol as the chemical hydrogen storage medium; and releasing the hydrogen from the alcohol at the consumer site, forming a ketone. Preferred Features: The hydrogen is released from the alcohol by reactive distillation over a catalyst. The ketone is regenerated to the alcohol by conversion using electrolytically obtained hydrogen.
