Thermally sprayed ceramic composite layers consist of nanocrystalline crystals and a coating of Al2O3 and SiC, in which the SiC grains are homogeneously distributed in the Al2O3 matrix. The coating is applied by high speed flame spraying or detonation spraying. The starting powders are mixed together before spraying.
