The load switch has a MV semiconductor load switch (4) and a current sensor (1) connected in series in the load switch current path (10), the output signal of the current sensor coupled via a digital signal processor (2) to a switching control (3), for blocking the semiconductor load switch upon detection of an over-current. A breaker (5) may be connected in series with the semiconductor load switch and the current sensor.
