An apparatus for photolytic production of hydrogen comprising two chambers (K101, K102) connected to filters (F101, F102) and pumps, where K101 contains algae which produce carbohydrates and oxygen by photosynthesis and K102 contains organisms, e.g. bacteria, which produce hydrogen from carbohydrates in the presence of light and the absence of nitrogen, is new.
