In the disposal of animal remains in the form of sludge, paste or dried meal, the residues are force-mixed with ash from coal-fired power stations or burned dolomite. The residues are subjected to an exothermic hydration reaction and are totally or partially de-watered and converted into a condition in which they may be sprinkled, sieved or puffed. The process comprises the sterilization of the animal residues and separation of materials for wet or dry processing. In the wet process, the residues are first dried and sub-divided into substances for mechanical and chemical fat removal, each of which produces separate fractions of animal meal and fat. In the wet process, residues are first separated into substances for mechanical fat removal and chemical fat removal. The non-fat residues are then dried and incinerated without further admixture in industrial furnaces of different types. Alternatively, the residues are mixed with mineral ore, coal powder, coke or blast furnace gases and incinerated. Alternatively, residues may be mixed with a heavy fuel oil fraction and incinerated. Alternatively, the residues may be converted to pellets or blocks and mixed with cement.
