Method for testing workpieces, especially precision rotating parts (1) or other cold-worked parts, in which the parts are tested during or at the end of production. The pieces are automatically separated, fixed and inspected singularly with respect to preset dimensions and tolerances. The measured values are stored separately for each workpiece and used to reject incorrect parts and provide complete documentation for all acceptable parts. The invention also relates to a corresponding device for dimensioning workpieces having laser light source, CCD camera, control device with associated memory, etc.
