Production of vinyl acetate by the catalytic gas-phase reaction of ethylene, acetic acid and oxygen at 135-150 deg C and 1-20 bar, in which the acetic acid content of the reaction gas is such that the difference between the reactor inlet temperature and the temperature at the outlet of the acetic acid saturator is not less than 45 deg C.
