Litter material (A) consists of dried vegetable material (I) and additive (II) for preventing aggregation on exposure to moisture, where (I) has a particle size distribution such that 80% (by mass) of the particles have diameter up to 1000 mu m; and the mass sum distribution of the particle size distribution (at least in 50-1000 mu m range) is greater than integrated random Gaussian distribution (GD). A litter material (A) consists of a mixture of dried vegetable material (I) and a additive (II) for preventing aggregation on exposure to moisture, where: (i) (I) has a particle size distribution such that 80% (by mass) of the particles have diameter up to 1000 mu m; and (ii) the mass sum distribution of the particle size distribution (at least in the 50-1000 mu m range) is greater than an integrated random Gaussian distribution (GD) at which the GD is a normal GD with an average value of 100 mu m and a standard deviation of 800 mu m and which the particle size distribution deviates by more than 10% from this random GD. Independent claims are also included for the production of (A), by milling and screening (I), recycling the coarse fraction to the milling process, adding (II), compacting and mechanically crushing (or in a variant wetting the mixture of (I) and (II) in a mixer, agglomerating to the required size and drying to the equilibrium moisture content).
