The radar method uses detection of a HF signal with a constant output frequency which is reflected by the detected object, with combining of the transmitted signal or a derivative of the latter and the reflected signal. The frequency of the transmitted signal is shifted for a short pulse duration and the transmitted signal or its derivative mixed with the reflected signal is shifted by a different amount, the combined signal filtered and evaluated for indication of the presence of an object within a defined distance range. An Independent claim for a radar device for detecting the distance of a close-range object is also included.
