Load swinging prevention device for crane has locking mechanism which is used to lock load holder relative to runner, when in raised position, to prevent swinging movement

The crane has a runner (10), which enables the load to move in at least a horizontal direction. A load holder (18) held on the runner such that its height is adjustable, is held using a pulley arrangement (16) between a lowered load pick up position and a raised load transporting position. The crane also has a locking mechanism (26) which is used to lock the load holder relative to the runner, when in the raised position, such that it does not swing. The locking mechanism is formed such that the load holder locking is released during operation of the runner when the horizontal load force on the holder exceeds a predetermined load threshold.
