Production of Nd-Fe-B alloys comprises: subjecting a starting alloy containing oxide compounds and/or oxygen impurities to a flowing protective gas atmosphere above the liquidus temperature; cooling after removing the oxide compounds and/or oxygen impurities; and solidifying. An Independent claim is also included for the alloys produced. Preferred Features: The alloy is inserted into an electromagnetic flash smelting coil and oxide and/or oxygen impurities are removed by raising the temperature of the melt and the pressure of the protective gas atmosphere. The pressure of the protective gas atmosphere is adjusted to a value up to 10, especially up to 1 mbar.
