The starting material is exposed to a second higher power radiation source during and/or immediately before exposure to the short wavelength electromagnetic radiation. The second radiation is e.g. IR radiation, while the short wavelength electromagnetic radiation comprises X-rays or psi -rays. The starting material is e.g. a liquid water based lacquer or a paint or photoresist with a UV hardenable component.
