Process for surface testing flat products involves taking pictures (24) with surfaces and/or lines of different illuminating densities of the surface of the products; feeding the picture information to a computer-controlled picture processing unit (18); and acquiring lines or surfaces in the unit from the picture information with the illuminating densities lying within a defined region. An Independent claim is also included for a device for producing flat products. Preferred Features: A minimum and a maximum illuminating density for limiting an illuminating density.
