The engine is driven by a mixture of water and a fuel such as methanol or ethanol which can be diluted with water. Existing Otto cycle engines with direct injection cab be adapted to run on this mixture. Pure ethanol may be injected into the combustion chamber during starting, in parallel with the operation of the starter.
