Device for characterizing the state of the myocardium using an excitation wave detector (1) designed to measure an expanding electric excitation wave at first and second points in the myocardium as first and second signals. An analysis device (2) with Fourier analysis unit (11) and wavelet analysis unit (12) analyzes the two signals in order to determine a difference between the two signals. An Independent claim is made for a method for characterizing the state of the myocardium by calculating the different between two signals detected at different points in the myocardium.
