The gripper finger (14) swings about a pivot (13) to grip the yarn between the head end (15) of the finger and the clamping hook (12). The head end and clamping hook have inter-digitating guide surfaces (18, 19) to guide the finger in the direction of the pivot axis and restrain any transverse movement. The guide surfaces can be profiled ribs extending to the gripping surface and run tangential to the pivot axis or concentric with it. A clearance space can be provided to avoid catching any warp threads.
