New nucleic acid encoding human receptor for steroid or sterol, useful for identifying modulators, for treating e.g. osteoporosis and prostatic hypertrophy

Nucleic acid (I) comprising: (a) a human sequence of 7093 or 7307 base pairs given in the specification; (b) a sequence equivalent to (a) within the degeneracy of the genetic code; or (c) a sequence that hybridizes to (a) under stringent conditions, is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) nucleic acid (Ia) that encodes polypeptides of 2014 amino acids (aa) or 2041 aa; (2) polypeptides (II) encoded by (I) or (Ia); (3) antibodies (Ab) against (II); (4) vector containing at least one copy of (I) or (Ia); (5) cells transfected with (I), (Ia) or the vector; (6) test system for identifying (M1) effectors of (II) or inhibitors of the kinase function of (II); and (7) preparing a pharmaceutical composition using (M1) to identify a modulator of (II) activity, then formulating this conventionally.
