A stabilizing unit for a large cross-section pipe, to protect it against earthquakes and fatigue damage, comprises metal projections welded onto the pipe in the direction of flow. Bore holes are used to hook on V-shaped members which are arranged vertically. The pipe is tensioned over its circumference at nodal points, and side members are arranged at 1 m intervals to provide parallel stability.
