The clip (1) may be made of sheet metal. It has a flat horizontal rectangular bottom surface (3) which may engage the bottom of the book lying on a table top. A 90 degrees bend (6) connects the bottom surface to a vertical surface (4), which spans the gap between the covers of the book. A second bend (5) may form an angle of less than 90 degrees when the clip is unstressed. The top surface (2) has a curved portion (9) which may hold a pen or pencil against the front cover of the book. A projecting lip (13) on the edge (12) of the clip acts as a handle to assist in prizing the clip loose from the book.
