A magnetic shield (10) including top and bottom portions (12,14), encloses a transformer circuit having step-up transformers (16,18) transferring electrical energy from an energy source to an ultrasonic flow sensor, which measures respiratory flow rate. The magnetic shield prevents ambient magnetic flux from interfering with the transformers. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) Transformers protection method; (2) Housing for protecting transformers from saturation.
