A solar cell includes bypass function region which forms a bypass circuit between a substrate and a first region using a depletion layer formed inside the substrate by reverse voltage. A solar cell includes a semiconductor substrate (1) of a first conductive type. A first region of a second conductive type is provided on the substrate. A bypass function region (17) including a second region of a second conductive type is provided on the substrate and spaced a predetermined distance from the first region. A third region sets the substrate and the second region at the same potential. A reverse voltage is applied between the substrate and the first region. The bypass function region forms a bypass circuit between the substrate and the first region using a depletion layer formed inside the substrate by the reverse voltage. An Independent claim is also included for a method for fabricating the solar cell.
