The device consists of a welding robot, preferably a 6-axis robot, an associated controler, a weld head held by the robot, preferably a plasma or laser weld head and a positioning device with a holding device in which the door or flap is held fixed for welding. At least one external robot axis controled by the robot controler is arranged in the positioning device and the holding device can be rotated in common with the door or flap parts about the external robot axis(es). Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of welding doors and flaps.
