The compressor has a swash plate/wobble plate, with tilt varied by the pressure differential between the discharge pressure zone (11) and the driving chamber (16). A supply connection between the two has a valve unit and a bypass throttle. When a set max. relief pressure is exceeded, the valve unit opens the connection between discharge pressure zone and driving chamber, and increases its size if required. This increases pressure medium flow from discharge pressure zone to driving chamber, and reduces the stroke of the swash plate/wobble plate.
