The machine has a display (40) showing points where buttons are to be sewn to a garment (T1). It has a read only memory (ROM) and a random access memory (RAM) to store display data for a variety of stitchings. A central processing unit (CPU) gives the display of the stitching for the execution of the button sewing as displayed, and also for parts in different ways, based on this data. The button sewing machine has a setting unit as an input for adjustment of the sewing conditions, and the control sets the display to show the new program. The setting unit can act on a given section of the garment workpiece, to give the sewing sequence. Sections of the garment workpiece are taken in succession for adjustment, with an adjusted set sequence. The memories store sewing data for a variety of garment workpiece types, with sections of the garments separated for setting. The memories also store data for a variety of button positions, and the stitching sequences which can be displayed.
