A memory stores various control data for forming button hole and hole-stitching seam at sewn material such as cloth. The drive of a cloth-cutter comprising vertically movable cloth-cutting scalpel (61) is controlled based on the control data comprising length data of button hole and hole-stitching seam. The sewing machine forms a hole- stitching seam at the circumference of button hole of a sewn material. An eyelet scalpel forms an eyelet portion of eyelet button hole. A cloth-cutting scalpel moves vertically relative to scalpel receptacle to cut the sewn material. The data for altering the length of linear portion and eyelet button hole contained in control data are used during formation of button hole using eyelet and linear scalpels. The data for altering the hole-stitching seam data, formation position of linear hole are used during formation of linear hole at sewn material. The data about the length of eyelet scalpel, linear scalpel and data about length between eyelet and linear scalpels are contained in control data. The choice data for formation of linear hole or eyelet button hole, the height raising data for vertically moving cloth cutting scalpel or female scalpel are also contained in control data.
