The protective railing (10) is for work sites on flat roofs. A bearing arm (16) is articulately connected to a vertical post and locates on the flat roof surface (18). A counterweight (20) is releasably arranged on the end area of the bearing arm turned away from the front edge (22) of the flat roof. The bearing arm in its end area facing the front edge of the flat roof has an upwardly pointing first collar arm (24). The vertical post on its downwardly pointing end area has a second collar arm (26) facing the flat roof. The free end areas of the first and second collar arms are joined to one another by a link (28).
