The pipe end blank is a plug (5) in the form of a hollow cylinder (7) provided with a base (6) on one of its ends. A flange (8) is provided at the other end of the cylinder and has a thread on its outer circumferential face for engaging in a thread (4) in a union nut (3). The flange may have a ring installed concentrically to the hollow cylinder and provided with an external thread which engages with the thread in the union nut. A sealing ring (11) is fitted between the end face of the ring supported on the flange and the outwards orientated end face of the collar ring (2) on the pipe end.
