New 2-norbornylsilyl compounds used for protecting functional groups of organic compounds containing acid hydrogen, e.g. hydroxyl in alcohol or diols, comprises chloro or trifluoromethanesulfonate group and known analogues
New 2-norbornylsilyl compounds comprises: (1) di(2-norbornyl)methylchlorosilane (IA); (2) tri(2-norbornyl)chlorosilane (IB); (3) di(2-norbornyl)dichlorosilane (IC); (4) di(2-norbornyl)silyl di(trifluoromethanesulfonate) (ID); and (5) 2-norbornyldimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (IE). An Independent claim is also included for use of a wider range of 2-norbornylsilyl compounds of formula, R1aR4-a-xSiAx (I) for protecting functional groups of organic compounds containing functional groups with acid hydrogen (H) selected from hydroxyl (-OH), thiol (-SH), amino (-NH- and -NH2), carboxyl (-COOH) and amide (-CONH- and -CONH2) groups and = 2 carbon (C) atoms. R = optionally substituted, monovalent 1-18 C hydrocarbyl, free from aliphatic C-C multiple bonds; R1 = optionally substituted 2-norbornyl; A = Cl or trifluoromethanesulfonate, -OSO2CF3; a = 1-3; x = 1 or 2.
