The model has a computer-aided design or CAD part interface for acquiring information relating to a CAD part in a part object and a drawing interface for acquiring a CAD drawing in a CAD drawing object. The part object and the drawing object are stored in a tool-neutral permanent form in separate relational databases with access by identity terms or keys. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of acquiring computer-aided design or development data and a computer-legible memory medium for program commands.
