A monitoring device has a signal trip/release and a sensing element in which the device has a retaining device for fixing on the neck/throat area of the person as well as a pressure pick-up with a releasably joined base part and with a head placement part arranged above the base part. The signal trip/release is designed such that at least one displacement state of the head placement part can be registered in which the sensing element is actuated by the signal release/trip and the sensing element outputs a signal when the sensing element registers a given displacement state of the head placement part.
