A process for the production of a rubber composition (I) comprises preparation of fibers to a desired length, treatment of the fibers with a treatment liquid containing a nitrile rubber modified epoxy resin and an alkyl phenol-formaldehyde resin and dispersion of the treated fibers in the rubber. Independent claims are included for: (1) A power transmission belt comprising poly(para-phenylene-benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fibers dispersed within a rubber containing body. (2) A composition comprising 1-40 pts.wt. dispersed PBO fibers per 100 pts. wt. rubber.
