Hydraulic tensioner for the endless connection element, in particular for the chain of transmission of internal combustion engine and by the manufacture of such a tensioner

The hydraulic tensioner (1), especially for an i.c. engine transmission chain (7), consists of a housing (2) with a cylindrical cavity (3) forming a high-pressure chamber for a sliding piston (5). The cavity is lined with an elastic sleeve (10) which has a ridged inner surface (10a) to act as a seal and lock for the piston. The sleeve is made from an elastomer material and its outer surface (10e) is also ridged to anchor it in the cavity, where it can be fixed by overmoulding or with adhesive. The ridges can be in the form of threads which allow the sleeve and piston to be screwed into position and provide for adjustment of the piston.
