A lever arm (2) is mounted by a pin (3) on the cycle fork (1). A return spring (4) drives back the lever arm into a neutral forward position. The lever arm is connected to a wing nut (6) via a link rod (5) using two spindles. The two wing nuts on the two sides are linked to the fork (7) by their spindles. The fork is linked through the unlocking cable (8) to the pulley (9) which, in its low neutral position, retains a section of the braking cable (10) exposed between the eyelets of the two ends of half sleeves (11). When the wheel is locked, the lever arm through inertia force tilts backwards, releases the pulley and retained cable section which enables the return spring of the brake jaw to loosen the brakes.
