The use of a tridentate agent rather than a bidentate compound is found to be more efficient in the extraction of americium, curium and lanthanides present in aqueous highly acidic and radioactive solutions. Americium(Am), curium(Cm) and a lanthanide(Ln) are extracted from an aqueous acid solution with an extraction agent dissolved in an organic solvent. The reactant is a diglycol amide of formula -R1R2NCOCH2OCH2CONR3R4and is capable of a tridentate coordination. R1, R2, R3 and R4 = alkyl.
