Preparation of telechelic fluorinated polymers comprises radical polymerization of fluorinated vinyl monomers, especially vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropene, using hydrogen peroxide as an initiator
Preparation of telechelic fluorinated polymers comprises radical polymerization of fluorinated vinyl monomers, especially vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropene, using hydrogen peroxide as an initiator
Preparation of a carboxy- or hydrocarboxytelechelic polymer comprises radical polymerization of fluorinated monomers in the presence hydrogen peroxide as a thermic initiator. The new polymers produced by the process have a glass transition of - 80 to -40 deg C The monomers used in the process are (A) of formula (I). Optionally additional monomers (B) may be used which are of formula (I), but are differently substituted. The claimed polymers have recurring unit derived from monomer (A) and optionally recurring units derived from monomer (B) as well as units with a double bond arising from (A) and/or (B) and contain 20-70% fluorine. Where the polymer is a homopolymer of (A), the number of recurring units derived from (A) is 4-50 and the number of double bond units is 0-10. Where it is a copolymer of (A) and (B) it contains 4-50 units derived from (A), 2-50 units derived from (B) and 0-10 double bond units. The molecular weight is 300-7000, (more preferably 600-4000). An Independent claim is also included for the new polymers produced by the process of the claim. R1, R2, R3, R4 = H, F, Cl, Br, I, 1-6C alkoxy or halogenoalkyl or perfluoroalkyl or halogenoxy, 1-7C acyl or halogenoacyl or perfluoroacyl, (where at least one of R1 - R4 contains at least one F).
