The system comprises a main heat exchanger (1), motor driven multiway valves (7,8), a storage container (4) and sanitary heat exchanger (3). A regulating unit (13) controls the valves and uses data from temperature sensors (10,11,12). On initially drawing water it is heated from storage container water flowing through the sanitary exchanger but when the temperature falls the container is short circuited (17) to use water from the main exchanger.
