Manufacture of cast and forged light alloy components involves using upper and lower forging die molds with profiled surfaces to produce thin wall between preform and riser
Manufacture of cast and forged light alloy components involves using upper and lower forging die molds with profiled surfaces to produce thin wall between preform and riser
Production of light alloy components involves: placing a cast preform (1) with a riser (2) into a forging die; forging the preform to cause an outward flow of material in the gating zone, to obtain a thin film or wall; raising the upper die to release the forged preform; and trimming the preform while removing the riser and the thin film. An Independent claim is given for a forging die for implementation of the above process. The forging die includes a lower die (6b) and an upper die (6a) having complementary shapes and profiles (6c, 6d), to allow flattening of the casting onset area to a thin film or wall. Parallel profiles (6c) in the gating zone produce a thin film when they are moved to meet each other. The parallel profiles extend towards the outside of the dies to diverging oblique surfaces, allowing flow of material and positioning of the riser.
