High performance aircraft forgings of high-strength steels, with long, thin sections, can now be produced with a minimum of costly and time consum¬ing machining. Forging dies capable of operating at l600°F can be cast with cavities which require no machining.nCasting molds made of special graphite mixtures provide excellent surface finish, close dimensional tolerance, finer cast grain size and good internal soundness of the high temperature resistant forging dies.nThese cast dies can be maintained at operating temperatures up to l600°F and at pressures up to 80,000 Psi. Die filling ability increased as the die temperatures increased, with the most favorable results occurring in the 1200°F to l600°F temperature range.
