The compliant link has components (302,304) which are interconnected by a connecting rod. Springs (320,330) are preloaded in the components to prevent relative movement of the connecting rod between the components, when an axial load below a predetermined value is applied to one of the components. An Independent claim is included for gear engagement mechanism.
